Sergeant Sperryn
Now that you are about
to leave the 68th I
cannot allow you to
depart, without adding
my tribute of esteem
for I believe there is not
an Officer of the Corps
who does not fully
appreciate your good
qualities. I have known
you many years, during
a portion of time
being Adjutant I had
|
opportunity of really
knowing you. There
are few men of your
standing who can
boast of retaining so
unsullied
a character & I sincerely
hope that in giving up
the profession of a soldier
in which you have so
deservedly merited the
good opinion of your
officers, that success
|
may attend you wherever
you go. The "medal"
you possess for "Meritorious Conduct"
will prove, I think, a
passport to you on
all occasions - I wish
you a pleasant voyage
& a happy meeting with
your friends in England.
I remain yrs always
P. A. Roberton
